WTF? WHY IS THE FIRE NATION BROWN?!?!?!?!
This site has added a few more names to the cast list for The Last Airbender, the first move adaptation of Avatar and they are all brown people playing the people of the Fire Nation. The only good thing about this that I can think of is that since Zuko is already gonna be played by a brown guy, at least they’re consistent. BUT SERIOUSLY! Once again, WHY THE HELL IS THE FIRE NATION BROWN?!?!?!?! It’s too late for Zuko, but now so is Uncle Iroh and Zhao? Zhao is CLEARLY AN ASIAN NAME! AND NOT BROWN! Why? Why are they doing this? They obviously know what these people should be. I don’t understand why they’re doing things in a way that they know will not please the fans. I’ll give them a case for Aang and the air nomads who do look like they have lighter skin, but I still don’t know how you could think that Tibetan-style monks look white… But the Earth Kingdom has the only Asian so far? The Korean? That’s a start but come on…! And seriously, the Earth Kingdom is probably the better place to cast the whites. Why is everything so backward? I was already skeptical when they first said they were gonna make a live-action movie a long time ago, but this is just making me so much more annoyed. And they totally planned this. All of the parts for the movie asked for Caucasian or any other ethnicity. Seriously. I’ll let this photo essay do more of the talking. I’ve had enough.

Oh god. It was worse than I imagined. There were two different sets of eyedrops. TWO!
I know you probably think I’m exaggerating, but I’m not kidding. I was shaking. The first one stung (but it was not as bad as balsamic vinegar… wait, I’ve had balsamic vinegar in my eye? Yes… unfortunately… numerous times too… god that hurt… I need to mix my salads in bigger bowls…) and then the second one started to make me sensitive to light and a bit blurry. And then my eyes got heavy and it felt really weird to close my eyes… *shudders* I don’t want to think about it anymore. But anyway, the more important thing to know is that I won’t have to get it done for another two years! Yay! Oh, and for the first time in my life, I was prescribed glasses. It’s just a slight adjustment so I don’t need to wear them everyday, but they’ll be nice to have. It’s gonna be weird to start carrying them around though… I’m so not used to it! And in case you didn’t realize, there’s no way I’m EVER going to wear contacts, for hopefully by now obvious reasons.
So yeah…

I’ve been catching up on some manga and anime (and starting a ton more) and it seems that every scanlating group is always looking for more help. So I thought “Hey, I’m not doing much this summer. why don’t I try and help out?” So I started looking around at what people are looking for. There were some openings for translators (can’t do that), editors (hmm), proofreaders (hehe yeah!), cleaners (hmm), and quality checkers. But I thought before I go any further, let’s see what I can do. I can proofread (unless it’s a mistranslation) and cleaning doesn’t seem too difficult and editing is basically those two jobs put together? Different groups divide the jobs differently, so it really depends. But anyway, I wanted to test my cleaning skills. I was thinking, If it’s just erasing what’s in the bubbles, that should be easy, right? But then I thought, Wait… what about the stuff that’s NOT in bubbles? Aah! So I thought I’d try cleaning a raw page. I took one of my favourite chapters from Bleach as the guinea pig (chapter 306).
Anime Recommendation and Review: Vampire Knight

Here is the opening: Futatsu no Kodou to Akai Tsumi by On/Off.
Summary: Cross Academy is attended by two groups of students: the Day Class and the Night Class. At twilight, when the students of the Day Class return to their dorm, they cross paths with the Night Class on their way to school. Yuuki Cross and Zero Kiryuu are the Guardians of the school, there to protect the Day Class from the Academy’s dark secret: the Night Class is full of vampires.

There’s a bigger summary at ANN, but I felt that was too long and dramatic for my tastes. 
This is a new show (sorta) that quickly caught my attention. And it is really good! The story is AMAZING. Enough said. But I also fell in love with the artwork. It’s just so pretty! And come on, how can you not like hot vampires with some sexual tension thrown in? Everyone from the night class is gorgeous, and then of course there’s Zero… (I’ll let you decide whether that’s an “mmm… Zero..” or an “ehh… Zero…” Either way, his seiyuu, or voice actor, is mmm… I love Mamoru Miyano! He’s Light Yagami Death Note AND Riku from Kingdom Hearts! Ahhhh…) But seriously, there is a great mix of comedy and drama (and even some fighting, which I wish there would be a bit more of. Those vamps have awesome powers!). I feel like there’s more drama in the anime than in the manga, but that’s fine. (but it is more than Gundam SEED’s level of drama, so if you didn’t like that, I can’t say you will like this…) If there’s one thing I’d have to criticize, it’d be that I feel it moves a little slow. But then again, that’s because I read the manga before watching the show so maybe I was just anxious (and also the fact that I read the manga in a couple days whereas I watched the show over the span of a few months). Nevertheless, it is a fabulous show with 13 episodes to date and a second season coming in October. I can’t wait!
My rating: 9.9/10
(In case you’re wondering, I don’t think anything is perfect (therefore I won’t give any 10/10s, except… maybe to Death Note… okay, I’m a huge hypocrite), but I do believe many things come close, and this is one of them.)
