… does not even begin to cover it.

And I haven’t completely disappeared… although I did come close.

The first thing you see when you reach the convention center. Is that an awesome start to your day or what?

My trip to California and Las Vegas was awesome. Insanely awesome. And also quite insane.

Let me try and explain.

As I mentioned before, I was going to Comic-Con for the first time with my sister and brother-in-law. I arrived in the Bay area a week before the convention which included the Distant Worlds concert and mainly ‘prepping’ for Comic-Con (aka catching up on shows. I obviously was (*ahem* AM) not only behind on the anime I follow, but other stuff too). We were too late for to get the 4-day pass and had to settle for Friday and Saturday passes. We thought those two would be the best days anyway, which in many ways was still true, but Thursday was apparently pretty epic… But anyway, we left Thursday night for San Diego and we had already gone through the Comic-Con schedule to see which panels we were planning to go to.

And boy were there a plethora of them to choose from. Eventually, we narrowed it down to our top 3 for the busy time slots, with 2 backups in case we couldn’t get into various events. As I said, this was our first Comic-Con and we had no idea what to expect. We knew there would be tons of people but even if we did know the numbers at that time (which I don’t think we did, but it’s about 125,000), there’s a big difference between imagining a number of people and walking through it.

And needless to say, we were overwhelmed.

Mixed feelings…

So I’m going to Comic-Con (and I can’t even begin to explain how cool that is) but I just can’t stop my pessimism. No, it’s not so much that too many awesome things are going on at once I can’t get to them all (though that is still something of an issue) but rather since I’m only going for Friday and Saturday, there will be some things I will miss. If I had to pick two days to go to, it would still be these two days since they have the most action and awesomeness, but Thursday, late Saturday, and Sunday have some great stuff too.

In particular…

Summer means…

… more free time? Yes and no.

Life has been getting in the way of my blogging recently but since it’s also the end of the season, there are a number of shows wrapping up so I have plenty of stuff coming… that just hasn’t happened yet.

But I want to wish everyone a Happy Canada Day from a couple days ago and a Happy 4th of July today!

And in celebration, here is a clip of the fireworks I saw on Canada Day!
(You can hear my friends are pretty excited 🙂 )

So yeah… I will have more stuff soon plus I’m going to California next week so there will be some posts about that, particularly about Comic-Con! I’m so excited!

Contemplate real hard why you bothered trying in the first place.

So I had started a post for Fullmetal Alchemist but I thought it would be better to post it once the anime is over to do it all together.

Plus, I’m done high school.

Okay. Back to what this post may or may not have been originally about.

Girl talk is about to ensue.

So a few weeks ago, my sister was telling me how she started experimenting with some simple nail art and she asked me to give her some more ideas that weren’t too complicated. During this search (which inevitably led to a youtube binge) I came across a design called marble nails.

It didn’t look to complicated and more importantly, it didn’t require any artistic skill.

It seemed simple enough, right?

So with a few weeks of school left, I’m getting all these major assignments in each class which is not only annoying and mean (these people seriously need to collaborate with each other and make their projects due days apart, or better yet, WEEKS apart) but it also has been taking over most of my time. It also so happens that I’m trying to catch up with FMA and be ready in time for the finale in a few weeks. I’m still not very far along but I will simply say that it’s awesome.

I was recently introduced to this Korean pop jazz band called Winterplay and they have a really cool sound and awesome arrangements for covers, including this one of I Will by the Beatles. (Link of original version)

The singer, Haewon, has a really clear voice but can still be low and have that sexy raspy thing going on. And they are fabulous live. (Is it just me or do I find that more Asian artists are better live?) If you liked that, they also have good covers of Billie Jean and Quando Quando Quando. For originals, Crazy Love (beware the crazy love in the video), Happy Bubble and their new one Songs of Coloured Love are really good.

So next week I may not post much or if I do, it’ll be to update how FMA is going. I’m sad it’s ending but at the same time, all good things must come to an end. (Oh Lost…)

And I just want to say:
This. is. PAPER.

I’ve had a night to sleep on it and I still don’t know if I’m happy or sad or in any way satisfied with the series finale of Lost.

I’m speechless.

I didn’t cry, but I think I’ll need a few more days before my brain functions normally again.

Just. Wow.

I’ll see you in another life, brother.

My IB exams are over (the only IB course I took was standard level math) so while my heart goes out to those with at least 10 IB papers to write, I’m annoyed that I still have another 7 weeks of school. The only benefit to being full-IB is getting out of school by the end of May and right now, I kind of wish I chose that route. But only kind of. (Because the IB sucks.)

And seriously. Who FORCES you to write a math exam in pen?
I understand it’s to better see the writing after scanning the papers but we know for a fact ours weren’t getting scanned this year. So why?

Anyway, I think I’m gonna continue my recent method of posting several show reviews in one post since I like it and it keeps me slightly more on track than usual. However, since I’m covering 4-5 shows, it still may be better to split this into two posts, so here’s Kaichou wa Maid-sama and Hakuouki.
But before then, I’ve also been trying to get caught up on Fringe (particularly because of the musical episode that came out a week or 2 ago) so of course, a song caught my eye.

It’s called Freezing by MoZella. I think it’s a really cool song because it has dark-sounding verses but quite a bright and happy chorus. Plus her sexy, raspy voice is quite awesome. I was looking at some of her other songs and I like her vibe: it’s the kind of music that you’d hear at a hip clothing store or on various commercials (maybe because they have been on various commercials? lol). It’s mellow and yet has a good beat. An awesome find. Also great acoustically.

On to the shows!

April Fools! (If only…)

Before I begin my rant, did you have an interesting April Fools Day? There were some interesting pranks on various websites, like Gamefaq‘s usual hidden poll answer (… it’s getting old). I liked WoW’s matchmaking service. It has a pretty funny intro video and a couple funny options such as “I am a lonely wizard looking for a mighty ally between level 90 and level 99.” Unfortunately, the joke stops there. It says it keeps loading stuff but it loops (yes I checked lol). Still, it lives up to WoW’s reputation for great April Fools pranks. (They’re one of the few that I actually remember years later.)

Two others that I liked were Koticku and Japanator going Americanator. It was quite an elaborate prank with many posts relating to the cause and it was very cool. Some of the articles were meh but combine them all and they are quite awesome and funny, especially the recommendation for Jersey Shore and an X-Men/Twilight crossover. I lol’d quite a bit at the crossover.

There were quite a few game-related ones (and I’m sure that’s not even an extensive list) that I was pretty surprised. Maybe I usually don’t see all this because I’m quite gullible so I choose to avoid all news on that day? Hmm.

Anyway, get ready for some fairly major ranting.

I get it now!

I thought I basically understood before, but after finishing Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, I really understand the meaning of the title now. And I would hope so, otherwise that would really suck.

This game was quite good. In many respects reminded me of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, and I would even go as far as saying that 358/2 Days is the Crisis Core of the Kingdom Hearts universe. And this is by no means a bad thing. In fact, it worked quite well, but more so with Crisis Core. 358/2 Days had CC’s main flaw and a few others.

But before I go any further, I just want to say a couple words (literally) about the recent manga chapter in Bleach: YES ISSHIN.

That is all.

We tried.

We really did. And I daresay we were close. Close but no cigar.

Last week I went to California to visit my sister and relax during my March Break but really, when it came down to it, I went so we could play Final Fantasy XIII together. I arrived the day it was released and my sister pre-ordered it so we were all set. But apparently a little over a week (and our sleeping habits) just didn’t cut it. We knew this would be a long game, as it was proclaimed the longest in the Final Fantasy series, and at first we had no expectations of finishing it, but then the end was starting to come into sight, and that was when we began to delude ourselves into thinking we could actually pull this off. We had fairly easily gotten ourselves through the first 10 chapters of the game and with only 3 left, we thought we could do the rest in the last 2 days of my stay. What we didn’t consider was the sheer length of chapter 11 as well as the expected time to be spent there grinding a fair amount. With about five different areas of basically travelling through various expanses, we assumed we could grind a bit at the first place and then skip our way through, still getting most of the treasures. This worked until the fifth area, where we began to get our asses kicked. Quite hard. We were still able to survive battles but at almost double the target time, and that’s when we knew this was not going to work out anymore.

So we gave up and spent the last few hours I was in Cali playing Rock Band. With GLaDOS. (Oh if only this was a triumph…)
But at least we tried?

Now I’m just annoyed that one, we won’t be able to finish the game until the next time I’m in Cali, which is this summer. However, this does give my sister time to level and do the mission sidequests on her own time so we will definitely be able to finish it this summer. And two, we went from thinking “There is no way we can do this” to “OMG we can do this!” and back to “There is no way we can do this”. The fact that we were so close (we think) that we could taste it and then it was snatched away from us is what makes this unaccomplishment that much worse. It’s like those athletes who are milliseconds away from a gold medal. No, we weren’t that close, but it felt like we were.

But I might as well mention some things about the game I liked/disliked now. It makes me feel a little better? (There be spoilers. And since it’s more or less ranting, it will be long)
