… Miracles from realms beyond…

I had never heard this song before last Thursday and it is quite good. Of course, it is Final Fantasy music. 🙂

And where was I when I first heard this great song? Why, at the Distant Worlds concert in San Francisco!

Oh yes.

This was an amazing concert and a much better ‘real’ start to my trip in California after my flight got delayed a day. And guess who was at the concert?

Find out!

So with a few weeks of school left, I’m getting all these major assignments in each class which is not only annoying and mean (these people seriously need to collaborate with each other and make their projects due days apart, or better yet, WEEKS apart) but it also has been taking over most of my time. It also so happens that I’m trying to catch up with FMA and be ready in time for the finale in a few weeks. I’m still not very far along but I will simply say that it’s awesome.

I was recently introduced to this Korean pop jazz band called Winterplay and they have a really cool sound and awesome arrangements for covers, including this one of I Will by the Beatles. (Link of original version)

The singer, Haewon, has a really clear voice but can still be low and have that sexy raspy thing going on. And they are fabulous live. (Is it just me or do I find that more Asian artists are better live?) If you liked that, they also have good covers of Billie Jean and Quando Quando Quando. For originals, Crazy Love (beware the crazy love in the video), Happy Bubble and their new one Songs of Coloured Love are really good.

So next week I may not post much or if I do, it’ll be to update how FMA is going. I’m sad it’s ending but at the same time, all good things must come to an end. (Oh Lost…)

And I just want to say:
This. is. PAPER.

My IB exams are over (the only IB course I took was standard level math) so while my heart goes out to those with at least 10 IB papers to write, I’m annoyed that I still have another 7 weeks of school. The only benefit to being full-IB is getting out of school by the end of May and right now, I kind of wish I chose that route. But only kind of. (Because the IB sucks.)

And seriously. Who FORCES you to write a math exam in pen?
I understand it’s to better see the writing after scanning the papers but we know for a fact ours weren’t getting scanned this year. So why?

Anyway, I think I’m gonna continue my recent method of posting several show reviews in one post since I like it and it keeps me slightly more on track than usual. However, since I’m covering 4-5 shows, it still may be better to split this into two posts, so here’s Kaichou wa Maid-sama and Hakuouki.
But before then, I’ve also been trying to get caught up on Fringe (particularly because of the musical episode that came out a week or 2 ago) so of course, a song caught my eye.

It’s called Freezing by MoZella. I think it’s a really cool song because it has dark-sounding verses but quite a bright and happy chorus. Plus her sexy, raspy voice is quite awesome. I was looking at some of her other songs and I like her vibe: it’s the kind of music that you’d hear at a hip clothing store or on various commercials (maybe because they have been on various commercials? lol). It’s mellow and yet has a good beat. An awesome find. Also great acoustically.

On to the shows!

Choo choo!

The power of a train whistle is extraordinary. Scares away enemies, opens up portals, speeds up your train like crazy…

So with Phantom Hourglass done not too long ago, of course Spirit Tracks would come next. This was a very good game and entertaining and was able to expand on many of Phantom Hourglass’s good points, but nevertheless, it was still basically the same thing. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but for those expecting something completely different, this was not it.

Still, there were plenty of cool things to keep me amused (even if my beloved hammer was nowhere to be seen…)

Let’s set the mood with some music, shall we?

Nostaligic, isn’t it?

Oh. And should I mention there be SPOILERS AHEAD? Okay.

Aren’t breaks awesome? Spring break has started for me (after a crazy term. I really need a break right now) so I’m off to California next week! My sister just got a PS3 and I’ll be coming just in time for the release of Final Fantasy XIII so you can guess what we’ll be doing for the next week or so. (This may or may not affect my posting something here… we’ll see.)

But before that, I have to pack, and this is one of the songs on constant replay during my packing. I mentioned it in a previous post but it’s so amazing that it deserves its own feature. Here’s Dynamo of Volition by Jason Mraz.

Did you catch the Nintendo reference? lol

I’ll admit I’m trying to memorize this and I’ve got the first half down. Time well wasted? I think so.

Speaking of FFXIII…

Done what?
Done my university applications! I’m so glad that’s over. Now all I have to do is wait… patiently… actually this part is probably worse… Hmm…
The good news is this should give me more time to catch up on shows. Or at least it should. 🙂
Second term is always the shortest it’s the most hectic (no I’m not semestered. But I do have three spares!)

Enjoying the Olympics? Well I’m Canadian so we’re all really excited and spirited up here. I actually bought a couple Olympic shirts today. Most of them are sold out so I was lucky to get a couple in my size. And I’ve been following figure skating pretty closely and just want to say congratulations to Patrick Chan for coming 5th in his first Olympics (which is AMAZING) and I do kind of agree that Johnny Weir got robbed… but I don’t think he should have been on the podium either, so a few places to me doesn’t mean much. And I feel for Nobunari Oda who was having a great skate until his lace broke. The fact that you only have 3 minutes to fix the problem is probably what would have freaked me out the most.

Anyway, I saw this dance video on Youtube recently and it is fabulous.

(The intro is a little random but it really starts like 20 seconds in)

This is pure awesomeness.
I mean, they’re called the ANBU Black Ops. (Naruto reference for the win!) They even danced to the Naruto theme song! And Pink Panther! And Mortal Kombat! And all the music and especially the choreography was great. And I love how they showcase all of their members, particularly Victor Kim (LOVE him. Any guy who can dance like him is amazing. AND he can sing and play the guitar! Double bonus.) Victor is from Quest Crew, the team that won the third season of America’s Best Dance Crew. If you haven’t seen much of him, watch this. Craziness.

Anyway, gotta work or at least continue with my plan to not work.

And so the 2010 Vancouver Olympics have begun. Did you watch the opening ceremony? See all the amazing singers? The water-spewing whales? I thought that was really cool. And, malfunctions aside, I liked the torch and the idea of having four people light it. It had a very united feeling to it, which is what the Games and Canada are all about. It made me feel quite patriotic lol.

So yeah! I’m going to try to watch as much of the games as possible but we’ll see how much that ends up being. I’m definitely going to be looking forward to the skating, both figure and speed, so we’ll see how that goes!

On another note, I had a couple Jason Mraz songs stuck in my head but this one has stuck the longest. It’s Butterfly and this live acoustic version with Cheryl beatboxing is fabulous and quite sexy.

You’ll also notices he changes some of the words from the album version to give it a different feel which is interesting. (Am I the best part of your life or do you have everything BUT me?)
And the two other songs which are also both awesome are Only Human and Dynamo of Volition. Both equally worth checking out. I may end up posting their videos in upcoming posts because they’re so good. 🙂

Exams are over.

I had a pretty weird schedule. A bunch at the very beginning then a 3-day break before my last exam on the last day of exams. I guess it could have been a lot worse, but hey. I would have rather had that break after finishing my exams. And those 3 days were pretty useless because all I really did was sleep. So as to avoid that voice in my head that would be nagging “You could be using this time to study!” if I was doing something… less productive.

Anyway, somehow in all of this, I found a new song to get stuck in my head. It’s Abracadabra by the Brown Eyed Girls. I happened to stumble upon them after looking at some Wonder Girls stuff (apparently they’re touring with Justin Bieber now which is… interesting to say the least.) But anyway, another k-pop song for your entertainment. I prefer the dance-only version of the video because the dance is much cooler than the semi-random guy sleeping around. Still, it is pretty suggestive so if you’re under… 12, you may want to just listen to it.

As catchy and sultry as the song is, it seems a little weird to me with lyrics about a boyfriend having an affair, but whatever.
Total sexiness. lol.

♪♫ I wish that she would get back soon (get back soon)♫♪

Yes, John Legend is awesome.

While I don’t think I’m a baby anymore (I did have my birthday last week…) I was… somewhere. I was at home but in total relax mode and didn’t do much. I didn’t even watch too many shows. Not even finishing catching up on Glee. (Mind you I was only 2 episodes in… but I still only ended up watching another 2 episodes near the end of my break). This was also when my older sister showed me this group, NLT, one of whose members is in Glee. (Can you guess who?) Anyway, I’m kind of in love with this song right now.

There’s a really smooth arm-through move at 2:50. Looks so cool.

Oh boy bands. ♥

Figured out who it is?

So apparently I didn’t go out of town last week as I planned but ended up having to work like crazy (or as crazy as it gets for a procrastinator. So more like it got crazy around midnight.) And to add to my limited amounts of time, last Saturday, I ‘decided’ to sleep (on and off) for about 17 hours. And I was still tired. (Sure it could have been from oversleeping but somehow I doubt that.) But I guess that’s what happens right after you write the SATs, which I did that morning. It was long yet short. Three-and-a-half-ish hours of testing in 10 parts, where the last part is 14 questions in 10 minutes. Fun stuff. The only highlights were that the essay was the first testing part (I wanted to get that out of the way as soon as possible) and that, since it’s for my ‘reach’ choice, I won’t bother taking the SATs again. But seriously, who forces you to write in cursive anymore? Sure, it was only for the legal agreement stuff, but who really cares if you write in cursive or not? Because of that, I spent a good minute trying to remember how to write a cursive capital ‘I’. I was not impressed. But thank goodness they didn’t make us write in cursive for the essay. That would have sucked.
The only thing is now, I have to wait another month before the results. Grr.

But enough of my ranting (or so you think… hehehe)
Let’s move on to some other stuff, shall we?
